December 2019 - September 2020
Greetings from ASI Head Quarters.
At the very outset, on behalf of the National Executive Committee, it gives me the greatest pleasure inviting you to the 80th Annual Conference of The Association of Surgeons of India (ASICON 2020) - first time ever to be held on a Virtual platform.
To me personally, recognising the ‘new normal’, quickly adapting to the change and strategically implementing VISION 2020 during the unprecedented COVID 19 pandemic have been powerful learning lessons.
Undoubtedly, an onsite annual Conference with the traditional “Meet, Greet & Fellowship” is indeed a ‘once in a lifetime’ HIGH POINT for a President. However, I am very clear that this HIGH POINT MUST NOT come in the way of ensuring 100% safety/welfare of delegates and their accompanying persons, which cannot be assured even at a deferred Meeting in 2021.
And therefore, at a specially convened National Executive Committee meeting held in July 2020, my proposal for the ASI parent body to host ASICON as a virtual Congress was unanimously approved. Equally, the Executive Committee has also resolved to reschedule ASICON 2021 to be held in Visakhapatnam, and consequently, ASICON 2022 in Mumbai.
The Conference dates are retained. The three day Congress from 17th – 19th December 2020 promises to be a Scientific extravaganza and I can assure you that no stone would be left unturned to ensure that your ‘virtual’ experience of the Conference is enjoyable, and indeed, memorable – like never before!
The Academic Programme focuses on showcasing the best practices related to the art & science of surgery in addition to laying emphasis on what you can learn over the weekend that can be applied in clinical practice on the Monday morning.
My heartfelt gratitude to the Membership at large for electing me to the highest office with an unprecedented mandate, never before witnessed in ASI’s history. I wish to place on record that the honour & privilege of serving our esteemed Association has well and truly been a god given opportunity. Over the past eight months, I have been working to the best of my abilities alongside the Membership at large to ensure “Creative Leadership & Accountable Governance” which has been my "mantra" right from Day 1.
The life transforming major philanthropic initiatives championed by the Association during the COVID 19 pandemic coupled with intense & vibrant academic activity have been the highlights of the year thus far. I have no doubt whatsoever that our flagship annual Congress later this year would be a fitting grand finale to "THE YEAR THAT WAS"! ’
In closing, I look forward very much to the distinct pleasure of meeting many of you ‘virtually! ’at our landmark Virtual ASICON 2020.Dr. P. Raghu Ram
